With our vision to become New Zealand’s most sustainable company, we know we can’t manage what we don’t measure. That’s why each year we work alongside Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a not-for-profit charity that runs the foremost global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to help them manage their environmental impacts.
CDP reports and rates companies on themes such as transparency, risk management, and initiatives they have in place to reduce carbon emissions. These scores are then compiled to provide companies with an overall rating from A (best) to D (worst). The rating provided highlights how well the company is performing in relation to best practices concerning Climate Change.
This year, we are proud to share that The Warehouse Group has received a score of A- for 2020, increasing from a C in 2018 and 2019. With C being the current industry, regional and global average, receiving a rating of A- puts us in the highest category of “Leadership”, acknowledging we are currently “implementing current best practices” in the fight against Climate Change.
We know consumers are to deliver solutions and tangible action. We are confident that we are doing this, and the score supports our ongoing work and commitment to our sustainability vision. Undertaking this reporting with CDP enables us to provide transparency to our customers and communities on the work we are doing, the progress we have made to date, and the long road ahead of us!
The Warehouse Group’s Chief Sustainability Officer, David Benattar says “Receiving such a high score is testament to the efforts of our team members in our Sourcing and Support Offices, stores, and Distribution Centres, who are passionate about our planet and continue to highlight changes we could make to improve the impact we have on Papatūānuku, our Mother Earth!”.
While we are incredibly proud and excited to be recognised for our effects in the sustainability sector, we understand we have a long way to go. As such, we are currently developing a strategy to understand and mitigate the carbon footprint of our products and manufacturing, which we see as a priority.
We continue to work closely with suppliers in our global supply chain; to bring affordable essentials to New Zealanders with the added benefits of better and certified ingredients, as well as improved and reduced packaging. We want to empower Kiwis to care for our planet by making it more accessible for everyone to buy sustainable products at affordable prices.
