On 19 August every year World Orangutan Day is celebrated. The day aims to raise awareness of these amazing animals – our closest relatives – and how we can help protect their forest home.
Orangutans are fondly known as gardeners of the forest. They play a vital role in seed dispersal and maintaining the health of the forest ecosystem, which is not only important for people but also other wildlife such as the critically endangered Sumatran tiger and Asian elephant.
Orangutans have been losing their tree top homes largely due to unsustainable palm oil plantations and timber harvesting practises. At The Warehouse Group we have several environmental policies in place, to ensure our products come from sustainable sources – ensuring environment and wildlife safety.
You'll see that many of our products containing wood have the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) label. This label is there to assure you that a timber or paper product is from a well-managed and sustainable forest. Not one that is linked to deforestation.
You can help us support a more sustainable ecosystem by buying forest friendly products, like these:
Look for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper and wood products next time you're in store and help us to save the Orangutans.
